Acne

Acne vulgaris is known as Acne that affects 85-100% of the population at sometime during their lives.

Though it most often occurs during adolescence, caused by an increase in sex hormones which affects both sexes, which then continues into adulthood, but normally with decreasing importance, normally finishing in the twenties.

Acne attack skin structures that consist of a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland (these excrete an oil in the skin follicles to lubricate the skin). Acne attacks the areas with the greatest density of these, the face and the upper part of the chest and the back. The worst form of acne is the inflammatory version where lessions or as known by the general population, pimples, spots or blemishes form.

Whilst the scarring can be quite mild to more severe, the main effect is psychological leading to depression and reduced self-esteem when teenagers are more likely to be socially insecure.
